Claudia Krispel, MD, PhD

Retina Specialist

Dr. Krispel founded Meadows Eye (formerly Meadows Retina) in 2015 with a goal of creating a medical practice that first and foremost prioritizes patients, and provides excellent medical care as well as exceptional customer service. These principles have allowed Meadows Eye to expand and attract some of the best Eye Physicians and Surgeons in the nation to care for our patients.

Dr. Krispel earned both her M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of California, Davis as a member of the Physician Scientist Training Program.She developed a passion for the retina while working on her Ph.D. thesis, which focused on photoreceptors, the light sensitive cells in the retina. She stayed on at UC Davis to complete her ophthalmology residency training. She completed her retina fellowship at the prestigious Wilmer Eye Institute at the Johns Hopkins University, where she received cutting edge training in medical retina, surgical retina, and uveitis.

She is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is an active member of the American Society for Retina Specialists and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. She speaks English, German, and Spanish.

John L. Gunn, MD

Retina Specialist

Dr. Gunn is a board certified ophthalmologist and fellowship trained retinal surgeon who has been part of the Meadows Retina team since 2017. He received his MD degree from the University of Tennessee, Health Sciences Center. He continued on at the University of Tennessee for his Ophthalmology Residency Training. He completed fellowship training in several subspecialties of ophthalmology including anterior segment and refractive surgery. He then elected to focus his career on diseases of the retina, and completed his retina fellowship at the Foundation for Retinal Research in New Orleans, LA.

He has practiced ophthalmology both nationally and internationally, and his broad life and work experience gives him an unparalleled perspective in treating patients and their retinal diseases. When Dr. Gunn is not taking care of patients, he enjoys the beautiful outdoors in Southern Nevada, and crafting hand made stringed instruments.

Zachary Bodnar, MD

Retina Specialist

Dr. Bodnar joined Meadows Eye after completing a Surgical Retina Fellowship at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. He brings wide range of experience to Meadows Eye. He grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah, and began his career in the software industry after receiving his undergraduate degrees in Computer Science and Engineering from MIT. He later chose to focus his career in Medicine, and went on to complete his M.D. degree at Dartmouth College and his ophthalmology residency training at St. Louis University. He completed an Ocular Pathology Fellowship at the prestigious Moran Eye Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he gained invaluable experience in understanding ocular diseases.

Prior to beginning his Surgical Retina training, he completed an Ophthalmology Innovation fellowship at Stanford University where he was directly involved in the design of new technologies for diagnosing and treating ophthalmic diseases. Dr. Bodnar has authored numerous scientific papers and is an active reviewer for various Ophthalmic Journals.

When he is not in the office, Dr. Bodnar enjoys home-brewing beer and exploring the outdoors with his family and his dog Stella.

Mazeyar Saboori, MD

Cataract and Glaucoma Surgeon

Dr. Saboori is a board-certified, fellowship-trained cataract and glaucoma surgeon who has been caring for patients in the Las Vegas valley since 2017. Dr. Saboori is a skilled cataract surgeon who has performed thousands of surgeries and uses the latest technologies in Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery (LACS) and offers his patients the most advanced intraocular lens technologies. He is one of only a handful of fellowship-trained glaucoma surgeons in the Las Vegas Valley, and offers cutting edge Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgical (MIGS) options as well as traditional glaucoma surgeries. Dr. Saboori is an active speaker on the topics of surgical and medical management of glaucoma.

Dr. Saboori earned his M.D. at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, before completing his ophthalmology residency training at the Kresge Eye Institute. As a senior resident he was elected to be co-chief resident. He completed his glaucoma fellowship training at the world renowned Case Western Reserve University. At Case Western he had the privilege of training with some of the top glaucoma specialists in the world, and is able to care for the most complex and challenging cases. He is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Glaucoma Society, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

Dr. Saboori speaks English and Farsi. When he is not in the office he enjoys spending time outdoors, cycling, and traveling.

Alec Amram, MD

Retina Specialist

Dr. Amram joined Meadows Eye after completing a Surgical Retina Fellowship at the University of Iowa, which consistently ranks among the top Ophthalmology training programs in the nation. Dr. Amram began his medical career at the Oregon Health & Sciences University where he earned his M.D. degree. He completed his Ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, where he served as Chief Resident in his senior year. During his residency, he was awarded the Senior Resident Teaching Award, the Ophthalmology Leadership Award, as well as the Ophthalmology Research Award.

He has been involved in many outreach, advocacy and mentorship activities both nationally and internationally. He has a strong dedication to his patients, colleagues, and community and we are thrilled to have Dr. Amram’s passion and enthusiasm here in the Las Vegas valley.

Dr. Amram is an active participant in the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. When he is not working he enjoys spending time with his wife and young son, photography, and exploring the culinary scene and beautiful outdoors of Southern Nevada.

Minhee Cho, MD

Vitreoretinal Surgeon

Dr. Minhee Cho joined Meadows Eye in 2022. She is an experienced retina surgeon with extensive expertise in all aspects of retinal diseases and surgery.

Dr. Cho obtained her undergraduate degree at Stanford University, after which she obtained her M.D. degree at the prestigious Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. She completed her Ophthalmology Residency training at the Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital at New York University, where she served as Chief Resident during her final year. Dr. Cho went on to complete a retinal surgery fellowship at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City. During her training, Dr. Cho authored numerous publications and had the opportunity to conduct ophthalmology research at the renowned Aravind Eye Hospital in Madurai, India.

Dr. Cho is passionate about caring for patients and communities, and has volunteered her medical services internationally in South America and Jamaica. Dr. Cho’s broad range of experiences in multiple cities and countries gives her a unique ability to understand and connect with her patients. She enjoys getting to know her patients and makes patients feel comfortable and relaxed during their visits and procedures. Additionally, Dr. Cho speaks Korean and Spanish.

Dr. Cho moved to Las Vegas to bring her passion, compassion, and surgical skills to the Las Vegas community. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and her two young children.

Isaac Ortiz, OD

Comprehensive Medical Optometrist

Dr. Isaac Ortiz is a comprehensive eye care provider who has been caring for patients of southern Nevada for over five years. Dr. Ortiz grew up here in Las Vegas, Nevada. He received his undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He went on to earn his Optometry Doctorate from the Illinois College of Optometry. After completion of his O.D. degree, Dr. Ortiz wanted to expand his knowledge of ocular diseases, and returned to Las Vegas to complete an Ocular Disease residency program at the VA Southern Nevada Health Care System. During his residency Dr. Ortiz had the opportunity to work with specialists from all areas of ophthalmology to manage and treat a wide variety of ocular diseases. Dr. Ortiz enjoys providing truly comprehensive eye care to his patients.

Dr. Ortiz is an active leader of the Optometric community in Las Vegas. He enjoys working with optometry students, and frequently gives educational presentations to his peers. His active involvement and excellent clinical abilities lead him to receive the Young Optometrist of the Year Award for Nevada in 2017. He is an active member of the American Academy of Optometry, the American Optometric Association, and the Nevada Optometric Association. He is licensed by the Nevada Board of Optometry, and has earned his Glaucoma and Therapeutic Pharmaceuticals certification. Dr. Ortiz speaks Spanish, and has participated in many Optometry Mission trips to Mexico and Central America.

When he is not working, Dr. Ortiz enjoys watching the Dallas Cowboys, playing soccer, and traveling.

Eric Tran, OD

Comprehensive Medical Optometrist

Dr. Eric Tran joins Meadows Eye as part of our comprehensive eye care division. Dr. Tran grew up in Southern California and obtained his undergraduate degree at the University of California, Irvine. He earned his Doctor of Optometry degree (O.D.) at the Illinois College of Optometry. After completing his O.D. degree, Dr. Tran completed a residency training program in ocular disease at the VA Southern Nevada Health system. During his residency training, Dr. Tran had the opportunity to evaluate and treat patients with a wide variety of ocular pathology, and developed comprehensive expertise in all aspects of ocular disease. He spent one year caring for patients in the Denver, Colorado area and then decided to return to the beautiful Las Vegas Valley to care for the patients in our community.

Dr. Tran is passionate about his work, and enjoys working with his colleagues and staff to provide top quality eye care to his patients with compassion and expertise.

Dr. Tran speaks Vietnamese, Teo-chew, and Spanish. A fitness enthusiast, Dr. Tran enjoys powerlifting, yoga, rock climbing, snowboarding. He also enjoys brewing espresso and taking advantage of the many events and activities Las Vegas has to offer.

Ryan Diel, MD

Comprehensive Ophthalmologist and Cataract Surgeon

Dr. Ryan Diel joins Meadows Eye after completing his ophthalmology residency at the prestigious University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. The University of Iowa ophthalmology training program consistently ranks in the top 10 training programs nationwide, and is among the most competitive programs due to the rigor of the medical and surgical training.

Dr. Diel grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada, and completed his undergraduate training at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. During and after college Dr. Diel was deeply involved in the Las Vegas Valley community, working as a lifeguard for the City of Henderson, a substitute teacher for the Clark County School District, and a clinical instructor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

He had the opportunity to attend medical school at the world-renowned University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, where he earned his M.D. degree and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Medical Honor society where he served as Co-President.

After completing his internship and ophthalmology residency in Iowa, Dr. Diel and his family decided to return to their roots in the beautiful Las Vegas Valley to join Meadows Eye. Dr. Diel is a comprehensive ophthalmologist taking care of patients with all varieties of ophthalmic disease. He specializes in complex cataract surgeries and cutting-edge technology for intraocular lens implants.

In his free time, he enjoys sports, outdoor activities, and spending time with his wife, young son, and newborn baby. He is looking forward to perfecting his golf game now that he is back in the Las Vegas Valley!
