Dr. Calvo grew up in Boulder City, NV and earned his Bachelors of Science (B.S.) degree in
Biology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), graduating Magna Cum Laude as a member of the UNLV Honors College. He stayed in the state of Nevada to obtain his M.D. degree from the University of Nevada, Reno. He was accepted to the prestigious Ophthalmology Residency program at the Wills Eye Hospital in Pennsylvania, serving as co-chief resident in his final year. The Wills Eye Hospital consistently ranks among the top 5 ophthalmology training programs in the nation, and is among the most competitive residency programs in the country.

After completion of his residency training, Dr. Calvo served as ophthalmologist at the Phoenix Indian Medical Center where he had an opportunity to provide cutting edge ophthalmic care to rural and underserved indigenous patient populations.

Dr. Calvo decided to pursue specialty training and completed a two year Vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the University of Utah, Moran Eye Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. During his fellowship training program he was voted “Fellow of the Year” and earned a Health Travel Grant for his work in pediatric retina. Throughout his career he has served in leadership positions in multiple professional organizations including serving as President of the Ophthalmology Interest Group at University of Nevada School of Medicine and President of the American Medical Association Chapter at the University of Nevada School of Medicine. He has been the recipient of numerous awards throughout his training and has an extensive list of publications in top-tier medical journals.

After completing his training, Dr. Calvo decided to return to Las Vegas to serve his hometown community. Dr. Calvo has been taking care of patients in southern Nevada since 2019 and has earned a reputation as a skilled and talented surgeon who enjoys building strong relationships with his patients. When Dr. Calvo is not working, he enjoys spending time with his family, music, and working on cars.
