Timothy Chen, MD, PhD is a board-certified, fellowship-trained retina specialist dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the retina, macula, and vitreous. He provides comprehensive medical and surgical care for a wide range of retinal conditions, including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears and detachments, and retinal vascular diseases.
Dr. Chen earned his Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering with High Honors from the University of California, Berkeley. He was subsequently accepted into the prestigious Medical Scientist Training Program at Columbia University, where he earned both his Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Biomedical Engineering. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Vision Institute, followed by advanced fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery at the University of California, Irvine Gavin Herbert Eye Institute.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Chen has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in ophthalmology, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine. His research background allows him to bring the latest scientific advances and evidence-based treatments to his patients.
He is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS).
