Cosmetic Injections
Botulinum toxin type A, better known by the brand name “Botox” is a neuromodulator that blocks
messages between muscles and nerves. There are several other medications similar to Botox,
such as Xeomin and Jeauveu which may be recommended by your oculoplastics surgeon.
As we age, we develop lines and wrinkles around the eyes and face that are often unwanted
and give the appearance of being older, tired, or grumpy. Botox or equivalent injections can be
used to temporarily reduce the appearance of these fine lines and wrinkles. These injections
are performed in the office by your oculoplastic surgeon. It is important to have a skilled
surgeon perform these injections, so the outcome of your appearance is natural and symmetric,
since it cannot be reversed. Effects are typically seen within 3-5 days, and can last up to 4-6
months.
